Most of the customizations are design related and a few minor functionality changes. I must say designing in AC is quite easy and well-thought out. Especially compared to the mess of Storefront that we used before.

Sorry haven't been on the forums for a while to answer. The homepage rotator uses jquery (jquery.com) which is an awesome javascript framework and a jquery plugin called innerfade.

There are some jquery image lightboxes around on the forum too so you can use the framework around the store.
