I have received an email from Paypal, they said they got a new update for the Paypal
Payflow gateway.
PayPal will be upgrading its
Payflow gateway service to a new, more secure SSL server certificate hierarchy in September 2009. To continue processing transactions after this date, you or your web developer must update your current integration to the latest Software Development Kit (SDK version 4.3+) or to our direct HTTP interface.
Step-by-step instructions are available here:
http://www.paypal.com/gatewayupdate. We are here to help so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or need assistance. You can contact our support team at 1-866-877-4891 with PIN code 168 or via email at
payflow-update@paypal.com. Again, thank you for talking with me today.
We at PayPal value your business and look forward to partnering with you in the future.
What are you going to do with this update?

I found AbleCommerce are still using the Client Version 4.0 for the Paypal Payflow transaction, so an update will be necessary.

I just switched to using PayPal website payment pro from payflow pro. For me the fee's are lower. Depends on what your processors fee's are like.

For AC7, the paypal
PayFlow integration will be updated.

I hope the update is prioritized and makes it at least in the next update (7.0.3) if not sooner via a DLL replacement. People don't like having these things on their minds. For peace of mind the "money process" needs to be at the forefront.

Any word if this will be updated for AC 5? There are a lot of legacy customers out there asking. We have several CFMX clients wondering if their site is going to stop working.

I researched this last night and I have good news. AC7 has always used the direct HTTP interface. If you read the notice, it recommends using this as an alternative to the client SDK. I went through the PayPal migration wizard and it confirms that you will see 4.0 as your client version in Paypal manager.
All versions of AC7 will continue to operate after 9/1 without additional updates.
AC5 is a different story. I also confirmed last night it does use 3.0 client SDK which is affected by the switch. It has been decided we will produce an update for AC5 prior to the deadline. Details have yet to be worked out.
Cheers,
Logan

Thanks for the update Logan! That's great news about supporting AC5.5 with this update! Our clients will be very happy.

Can Able Commerce tell us if there's a way to "preflight" the paypal switchover? I'd hate for our site to stop working on 9/1 because there was documentation saying it would be fine, but it was never actually tried.

If you're using AC 7 then you should be fine. Check your online gateway and it should show the version info, etc. You can ask the gateway support if you are fine or if you need an update.

It was tried, as far as PayPal documented what to look for. I completed a transaction with AC7 then reviewed it in the PayPal manager. The client version reports 4.0, and this is correct according to their migration wizard. AC7 does not use an SDK, it communicates directly with PayPal via https.

This will be tracked under bug number 8136. I have done the conversion to the new SDK, it does not appear very complicated. However my current machine does not have VS2003. It will need to be compiled with that in order to be compatible with .NET 1.1 that was supported by AC55.

Logan,
I can do that for you if you want. I've got VS2003 on one of my old computers.

I too have a system running VS 2003 with AC 5.5 as that's my current store right now.

It would probably be better for Neal to do it then. Wasn't there another issue with 5.5 that hasn't been patched? It seems like it had something to do with USPS.

You really just need to compile a DLL (payment plug-in), not the entire AC product. Any 2003 machine that references the proper assemblies will work. If I were Logan I'd bring up a VMWare or Virtual PC, get VS 2003 installed and then compile it. Not a big deal.

I guess I should have mentioned, there is a PC that is a complete build environment for AC55 in the storage room. I just need to power it up. I took it offline about 6 months ago as it hasn't been needed. Thank you for the offers though!
Cheers,

Logan,
Just a reminder that we'll need a patch for the CFMX version, too. Thanks!

Any update on this patch request? The business is getting nervous about the possibility of the website breaking. Any hint of a timeline would be appreciated. Thanks.
