Are these features available?

Post by gfxinternetservices » Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:36 pm

Forgive me if these have already been addressed in the forums. Through my research, I did not find answers to the following questions in the feature list or in the forums:

1] Product Management: Is there the capability to allow for shared choices where multiple products can share attributes. For example, 3 shirts can use the same color choices without having to add them individually, and when updating choices, it dynamically shows up on all associated products.

2] Product Management: Is there the capability to copy characteristics from other products, such as copying categories, choices, prices, etc.

3] Product Management: Is there the capability to clone products to create new sku's?

4] Product Management: Is there the capability to show a primary product, but only it's accessory choices are added to the cart. For example: You have a "Whistle", and you can choose from the following options: Key of "C", "D", "E". Each key has it's own sku, and therefore you wouldn't want "whistle" added to the cart, but rather "Key of C". I am guessing this can be accomplished by "kitting".

5] Product Management: If the above can be accomplished, can you assign the accessory choices their own sku, or is that dependent on the primary product. The reason for asking this is because the sku's would need to match the products in Quick Books so an import would work correctly.

6] Product Management: If the accessory items work as listed above, can they be hidden from product search results so that customers would be forced to reference the primary product?

7] Image Management: If large images are uploaded via FTP (referenced by sku.jpg], will Able automatically assign those images to the products and dynamically resize them accordingly, or is that only done by uploading the images individually through the control panel?

8] Category Management: If a product is added to a sub category, can it dynamically be added to it's parent category. For example, you have a category called "hats", and underneath that you have a sub category called "brown hats". If you add a product to "brown hats", can it show up under "hats"?

9] Category Management: When listing products into a category grid, how would products with attribute choices work?... od would it?

10] Navigation: Do users have the ability to roll over categories to view sub categories? If not out of the box, I am assuming this can be done with CSS.

11] Navigation: Do administrators have control over the link listing view of the navigation bar. For instance, when a user drill down sub-categories, is it possible to view the top level categories at all times?

12] Content Management: Is there the capability to have content rotators (BV calls them "HTML Rotators"]? This allows the administrator to have additional random options for content blocks

13] Content Management: To add new informational pages in BV Commerce, I would utilize BV's category pages so everything would be in the database and automatically referenced in the navigation. Can I easily use this type of method in Able, or would I have to create a static pages (e.g. duplicating default.aspx]?

14] Custom Designs: I notice website design in Able is primarily driven by CSS, which is great. Are there any layout's that will not work with Able? For instance, I notice all examples I have reviewed look rather "blocky" and are constrained for traditional header, navigation, and footer areas. Is it possible to bleed a design say from the header to the navigation? As an example, take a look at a less traditional layout: http://www.gfxinternetservices.com/ (while it's not a e-commerce site, I wanted to show an untraditional design to see if I have any limitations.)

15] Coding: Is Able Commerce W3C compliant?

16] Coding: When making customizations to functionality, does the entire website need to be recompiled, or only specific files? In my current e-commerce package, the core DLL would need to be recompiled requiring many unrelated source files, which makes things not as easy as I would like... especially for highly customized websites.

17] Payment Processor: Will SecurePay be included in Able?

18] Functionality: Is it possible to hide prices of products from a specific manufacturer unless the customer is logged in?

19] Promotions: Is it possible to generate gift certificates when customers spend over $x & expire after x days.

20] Shipping: Can you offer free shipping to customers if the spend over $x, and if so can you disallow specific products to take advantage of that promotion (for example heavy products].

21] Will Able come out with a conversion tool specific to BV Commerce 2004 that will import all products / categories?

Perhaps I should have separated this out into seperate posts... what a huge list of questions ;). Thank you very much for your time on this. I appreciate the review.

Gosh Mr. Miller,

What a great bunch of questions.

We're working on a new release and we'll do our best to answer all of your questions next week. I'm looking forward to knowing ALL of the answers, as much as you.
Thanks for your support

I look forward to your thoughts on my questions after you are able to get the next release out.

In the meantime, I was curious if you publicly keep track of additional features or fixes slated for version 7.1 and future releases? If so, could you provide a link?

Thanks for your time.

Have you established a date for the new release? Will that be beta3 of 7.0 or the CocaCola version? (the real thing?) 8)
Thanks,

Problem with link (above)?

Post by bobr2k » Sat Oct 27, 2007 9:50 am

Mike, I couldn't get this link to work for me:
This link contains the ones that we've currently documented ... Mike Randolph
It looks like this in firefox address bar:
Is there any way to make forum entries WRAP rather than string out across the horizontal bar?

... still no target date for the release I guess?
Thanks,
Bob R.

Hello Bob,

The link you posted worked for me (I removed it) and the one above does as well.

RC 1 was to be released yesterday but the installation/upgrade hasn't passed QC yet, the team is working on it right now and we should release today.
Thanks for your support

Hello,

Sorry for the delay. Was also working on getting the data port utility out the door.
1] Product Management: Is there the capability to allow for shared choices where multiple products can share attributes. For example, 3 shirts can use the same color choices without having to add them individually, and when updating choices, it dynamically shows up on all associated products.
You can copy products with an option set, however we have inventory management at the attribute level so there unique to the product. Which mean if you change one it won't change the others.
2] Product Management: Is there the capability to copy characteristics from other products, such as copying categories, choices, prices, etc.
You can copy products, which also copies all attributes associated with them. discounts, specials, category assignment, etc.
3] Product Management: Is there the capability to clone products to create new sku's?
sounds like copy product so yes.
Yes kitting would do this.
5] Product Management: If the above can be accomplished, can you assign the accessory choices their own sku, or is that dependent on the primary product. The reason for asking this is because the sku's would need to match the products in Quick Books so an import would work correctly.
Kitting yes, options no.
6] Product Management: If the accessory items work as listed above, can they be hidden from product search results so that customers would be forced to reference the primary product?
Yes you can Lock a product. So it's invisible in the store, yet it can still be part of a kit.
7] Image Management: If large images are uploaded via FTP (referenced by sku.jpg], will Able automatically assign those images to the products and dynamically resize them accordingly, or is that only done by uploading the images individually through the control panel?
No auto resize on ftp upload. it's possible, but we haven't even heard of anyone using the sku.jpb method yet, so it wasn't thought of.
8] Category Management: If a product is added to a sub category, can it dynamically be added to it's parent category. For example, you have a category called "hats", and underneath that you have a sub category called "brown hats". If you add a product to "brown hats", can it show up under "hats"?
Products can be assigned to multiple categories.
9] Category Management: When listing products into a category grid, how would products with attribute choices work?... od would it?

Currently if you click add to basket it will take you to the product page, we'll come out with improved controls that will allow a few attributes to be show on the category page. We've had it in prior versions.
10] Navigation: Do users have the ability to roll over categories to view sub categories? If not out of the box, I am assuming this can be done with CSS.
In the admin side there is a control that could be customized for this, again we'll be adding lot's of fun controls in the coming months as ideas like this come in.
11] Navigation: Do administrators have control over the link listing view of the navigation bar. For instance, when a user drill down sub-categories, is it possible to view the top level categories at all times?
Yes, if you checkout the sticky thread about controls you'll find a custom control that does this.
12] Content Management: Is there the capability to have content rotators (BV calls them "HTML Rotators"]? This allows the administrator to have additional random options for content blocks
No, but a random RSS block would take about 10 mins to code.
13] Content Management: To add new informational pages in BV Commerce, I would utilize BV's category pages so everything would be in the database and automatically referenced in the navigation. Can I easily use this type of method in Able, or would I have to create a static pages (e.g. duplicating default.aspx]?
content management is build into AC7 you can add webpages, links and link pages.
There are no limitations to the ability to customize AC7.

Quote from AC7 customer: 'You guys did a great job making the UI easy to customize. '
15] Coding: Is Able Commerce W3C compliant?
will have to research this further, but it isn't something we've focused on I know that. We do have nice html layout and use current tags.
16] Coding: When making customizations to functionality, does the entire website need to be recompiled, or only specific files? In my current e-commerce package, the core DLL would need to be recompiled requiring many unrelated source files, which makes things not as easy as I would like... especially for highly customized websites.
Asp.Net 2.0 auto-recompiles the files and no the core dll would NOT need to be re-compiled due to changes of the admin or store files.
17] Payment Processor: Will SecurePay be included in Able?
Never had that one requested. We're integrating Ibiz's suite of processors and it's not even on their big list.

http://www.nsoftware.com/ibiz/epayment/
18] Functionality: Is it possible to hide prices of products from a specific manufacturer unless the customer is logged in?
Not yet, it is on the feature list but it didn't make it into 7.0.
19] Promotions: Is it possible to generate gift certificates when customers spend over $x & expire after x days.
Our gift certs can be made to expire after a certain period, so it sounds like an ez customization.
20] Shipping: Can you offer free shipping to customers if the spend over $x, and if so can you disallow specific products to take advantage of that promotion (for example heavy products].
I'll answer this later, I need to play with it again.
21] Will Able come out with a conversion tool specific to BV Commerce 2004 that will import all products / categories?
If you can get it into CSV format our data port tool will do this quite nicely. We've gotten a lot of interest from BV'ers' so it's always a possibility.

One final closing note when in the BV vs Able story. Based on ton's of customer feedback and our own review, our database, our architecture and our coding is VASTLY superior to BV. You won't find a mix of VB and C#. It's all coded in the more popular C#.
Thanks for your support

1] You can copy products with an option set, however we have inventory management at the attribute level so there unique to the product. Which mean if you change one it won't change the others.
For inventory management, I think it would make sense to break down every option as it's own individual sku, however is it possible to allow product choices without assigning that choice to a sku (perhaps if inventory management was not being used)?
2] You can copy products, which also copies all attributes associated with them. discounts, specials, category assignment, etc.
So, if a product A already exists, you cannot copy over product B's attributes, unless you delete product A, and re-create it with the copy option, correct?
7] No auto resize on ftp upload. It's possible, but we haven't even heard of anyone using the sku.jpg method yet, so it wasn't thought of.
I'm interested in a way to mass apply images to pre-created products. If it can't be handled dynamically through FTP, can a batch image upload be handled through the control panel? I'm assuming that this would need to be done on an individual basis.
I have several stores that have hundreds of products, so I just wanted to see if there was a way to streamline that process. It would be nice if AC7 looked for sku.jpg by default unless otherwise specified by the admin.
8]P roducts can be assigned to multiple categories.
I was wondering if it could be setup to dynamically populate categories in the hierarchy. This way it would be easier to manage several products in an organized manner... should the admin decide to populate products in this way. So to clarify, can this be done on the fly, or would that be considered a customization?
9] Currently if you click add to basket it will take you to the product page, we'll come out with improved controls that will allow a few attributes to be show on the category page. We've had it in prior versions.
So if you have multiple products that require choices, will it take you through each product's detail page (in an organized queue process)? Sounds like it would... and if so, that's a great option!
15] will have to research this further, but it isn't something we've focused on I know that. We do have nice html layout and use current tags.
I actually haven't found any shopping cart that is, but it would be a nice feature. Regardless, I've heard many people say how clean the coding is, which is very important.
18] Not yet, it is on the feature list but it didn't make it into 7.0.
I noticed a few features that people discussed that you mentioned are on the feature list. Do you happen to have a tentative schedule for new features such as this one? I see you have a page updated with bugs and fixes... but I wasn't sure about new features.

-----
Thanks for taking the time to answer ALL of my questions. Hearing great feed back about AC7 from forum posters and elsewhere is nice, but whats more comforting is that the AC team really takes time to respond to questions such as these... especially if by chance currently unsupported features eventually make it into the build ;).
