ready to go live ... advice wanted from the experts

Post by bobr2k » Tue Dec 04, 2007 9:03 am

Does anyone have AC7 RC1 up and running as a viable store? If so, did you install any bug fixes that were required? I've reviewed the bug list but trying to decide if any of those is essential to run the store is beyond my job scope ;-) better to hear it from the experts.

Background: We downloaded ac7_b8272 on November 2, 2007. Are there any bug fixes that NEED to be installed to make the product operate effectively?
We'd like to work with the next release for a week or so before installing it but our customer wants the store up and running.

I do have Solunar's tip on "the ending slash '/' on your store URL in the Configure/Store page." (thx Joe) and we will need to install the authorize.net zip file so any tips on that are also appreciated.

Thanks for any advice, tips, etc.

A special tip of the Hatlo Hat* to KATIE for all her support help! THANKS to Katie and ALL the forum "helpers" our site is LOOKING GOOD!

Bob,

I've been live for almost two weeks with AC7.

I could write you volumes on what you and your client should be prepared to encounter.

But I'll keep it short. Wait.

There's a ton of fixes as a result of the past few weeks alone. Your client is going to want those fixes. Trust me.

I think the title "Release Candidate" may have been a bit optimistic on the part of Able. Hopefully they will do a Release Candidate 2 so those fixes can be field-tested before declaring the product "live". Some of these changes are quite significant in day-to-day functionality of a live storefront. You can learn to work around them like I have, but your workload will increase as a result.

To be completely honest, I should have never gone live with AC7 RC1. I didn't test well enough and I was too quick to dismiss little quirks. That's not Ables fault, it's my fault. I knew better. My lack of knowledge in working with online storefronts didn't make matters any easier for me.

It truly is a great product. It just needs some more time to polish off the corners.

It will be worth the wait, I can promise you that.
