Upgrade From 5.5 to 7.0

Post by Redcell » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:41 pm

Will I be able to upgrade my 5.5 Website to 7.0?
This 7.0 Software seems like it has everything that we have been waiting for, and it would be great to be able to upgrade.
Thanks.

Nick

Hello Nick,

We will have a tool that will allow you to move your 5.5 data into 7.0, but you will need to re-do the site look and feel as the store templates are all new.

Sure. That's what I suspected. But we were prepared for that.
Sounds like a great software. We are looking forward to it's full release.

Customer info?

Post by Mizmo67 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 12:44 pm

Hi,

Will the customer acct info (and past orders) also be transferred from 5.5 to 7.0, or will all that data again be lost? I hate having to ask our regulars to start their accounts all over again, on top of losing their past order info.

Thanks!
Mo

I second that - I'd love to be able to move my 5.5 data to 7.0!

Upgrade Tool

Not being an expert, take this with a bit of wariness. But I believe the DataPort tool (also called Data Client) is currently available to download.

Go to this string........

viewtopic.php?t=5707&start=0&postdays=0 ... rt+utility
or simply download from the ftp site........

ftp://ftp.ablecommerce.com/evals/DataPort.zip

One piece of advice, there is a dataport version 2.........

ftp://ftp.ablecommerce.com/evals/DataPort2.zip

That is supposedly newer. I got the link from a live chat with the help desk at AbleCommerce.

Alot of our products have custom fields. Will this information be retained in a dataport? Also does 7 use custom fields?

Hello,

AC7 doesn't use the same methodology with custom fields and we've not figured out how to address them yet. ESD is the same, there were enough changes that we'll work these out at the end of the development phase of the dataport utility.

I cannot access the dataport.zip. Was it taken off the server?

Hello,

Yes it was taken down. We've re-written a large chunk of the object mapping code and it's still in testing.

Hello,
The dataport did work fine for me except my upsell product accessories did not come through. Is this a known issue or is it something we're going to have to deal with. Also would like to know about the Custom Fields as well. Our whole Able Site relies on Custom Fields.

Thanks

I also need the capability to import 5.5 custom fields into 7.0 template fields. I have modified the Books template to contain all the custom fields I need for my products but they do not seem to be handled by the import. Does the dataport (.34) have this capability? If not, when might we expect to see this?
