I'm able to automatically create the icon and thumbnail images on upload but have to pick icons, thumbnails, and image one at a time. Can someone point me to the hook or switch that tells the image picker to pick using standard naming convention? I know I saw it when I was testing earlier but I can't find it now. Tried searching but it didn't jump out at me.
I see a reference to advanced options but can't find it either.
Use Advanced Options for more control, such as the ability to specify image paths and set alt text.

Do you mean under:
Administration > Website > Logo and Images
Where it says "Product Image Lookup by SKU"? This is where you can tell Able to auto look for images based upon the sku.

I don't think that's the one I saw. I think there's something that when you pick the icon, it will automatically pick the thumbnail and image based on the name, _i, _t ... and also allow you to set the path so you don't have to click on the folder name eg. productimages or whatever. The quote is right from the images and assets page ... here's the entire quote:
Shown below are the icon, thumbnail, and detail image, if available for this product. You can upload a new image or attach additional images to the product. Use Advanced Options for more control, such as the ability to specify image paths and set alt text.

Bob,
There are a couple of ways to do what you want...
Product Image Lookup by SKU
If you check that checkbox "Product Image Lookup by SKU", you don't have to use AC7 to upload/assign images.
Make sure your image files are named by SKU i.e. item number 10006 has images 10006.jpg, 10006_i.jpg and 10006_t.jpg.
Doing it this way, you just copy all your image files into the ~/Assets/ProductImages folder. AC7 will automatically see them and populate your product records for you. There's nothing more to do.
Image Upload
Whenever you are given the option to upload an image in AC7, there is an "Image Options" radio choice below the filename. If you set it to "Standard Image Sizes", AC7 will automatically take one image and resize it into the three sizes needed. If you choose this route, make sure the image you upload is the full size image. Resizing a larger image down yields far better visual results than a smaller image up.
