AC7 and Digital products

Post by jmestep » Mon Apr 21, 2008 9:18 am

Is anyone out there using AC7 for digital delivery of products? If so and you used AC 5.5, how do you rate the two? I have a client that has been slowly putting up a website where some of the products will be digital and I'm thinking about recommending that they switch to AC7 since RC3 is out and they aren't live with AC5 yet. I don't think the lack of some of the AC5 features in the admin will be a problem and I want to get someone's opinion on the benefits of AC7 digital delivery.
Thanks

Obviously I can't give you usage experience, but I will mention one technical advantage in AC7 over AC55. If you are dealing with larger digital files, AC7 is superior in handling. It has resumable downloads as well as using a "chunked" download process that dramatically reduces server load. These improvements apply to any file above 10k, but the smaller the file the less it would matter. For a 100GB file, it would be necessary to use AC7. AC55 would probably cause the server to hang on download.
Cheers,
Logan

Thanks, Logan. I think the files will be pretty big since they are going to mp3 around 1 hour length. I just needed a little info to help them to switch to AC7.
