Missing or inaccurate sales data on admin interface

(preface: this is such a stupid point that I can't believe it hasn't been covered but I searched and couldn't find anything so here I go)

In 5.5 we had a wonderful admin interface that provided very clear daily sales data, dollar figures and number of sales. This kept a running total for the month and so you could immediately see what is what.

Now in 7.0, we have a wonderful admin interface that provides information on everything under the sun, and I like it but for this critical thing: I don't have access to a running total of the days' sales or a monthly total. I can dig to Reports -> Sales -> Daily or monthly, but that data is all wrong. Completely wrong and, really, rather useless.

There are two days recently in which we had lots of sales but the daily report shows none. The Product Popularity feature on the front page provides a rank but no raw numbers. The Order Summary feature gives numbers of orders but not $ figures. So too with "Sales Over Time"

What am I missing? At this point, I can see individual orders etc but I'm blind as to daily totals and monthly data on what I need more than anything else.

Surely this is user error.

Most likely you do not have "Include in Reports" checked for your various order statuses. Edit your Order Statuses and make sure the ones you want to be considered a "sale" have the "Include in Reports" checkbox checked.
