Preorder and Different shipping prices

Does anyone know if you can setup items to be preordered? Also, we will be having items that ship for free and some that have a shipping price. Anyway to set this up?

One way to handle this case could be by defining appropriate warehouses and assign them to products accordingly and then creating shipping method for some specific warehouse.
