licensing questions

Post by ryanstowasser » Tue Oct 21, 2008 3:21 pm

We have a client who wants to go live soon, but I have some questions about how to register for the live license.

He has a current non-ablecommerce site running.

We have a development site where we have been customizing his site.

We need to push the developement site up to his host, and run through testing in the production enviroment, but I am not sure if I need to register the live license to the eventual live url or if I should register it to an IP or Subdomain.

Has anyone been through this process? What do you recommend?

Thanks

Unless you're going to run the two stores concurrently for a while, I would get the license for the real domain. Then you can change your hosts file to point to that ip. If there is a problem, you can set the first line in the ablecommerce.config file to demoMode="true". That will put the store into the mode where orders show DEMO for name fields.
Or, he should have a developer license that came with it and he could use that for the license.
I have a client with an Able5 store moving to Able7 and we used the license for the real domain, but put the ip address in our hosts file so that we will always go to the new site.
