How to link Anon Order to New Account Sign Up

Situation: Customer comes in, shops, checks out as anonymous user and finishes order. User then wants to create an account so A. We create it for them in the backend or B. They create an account.

Problem: There is no way (apart from dropping right into database) to link the user account now to that order.


How can we link an order to a user that signs up after they place their order. Or Generally, used an old email in the past and we need to link up order history.

I think you can use the Email address. If the customer created the account with the same Email address that was used to place the order then it could be used link the orders and the customer.
