Wholesale users, possible to disallow shopping by SKU or cat

Is it possible to disallow wholesale customers from shopping by SKU or category?

Some products are not available to wholesalers at a discount. Can the SKU be used to make these products 'off limits'? SKUs prefixed with "ABC", or any products from a certain manufacturer, perhaps?

You can approach this different ways. In one site, I have Bible institute courses that only registered students are allowed to purchase. I made a separate display page for the categories and products with code in it to not display the contents if the customer isn't registered to that group. In order to hide the products from searches, I made them private, but on the special display pages changed the criteria for them to be visible there only.
