Asset Manager does not list virtual directories

Under my Assets folder, I created a virtual directory in IIS7 to a separate location of all my product images. This is to manage disk space and avoid possible overwriting of the Assets folder. The images show up perfect in the product manager and the frontend cart- so no problems there.

The problem is that when I view the Asset manager in the admin panel, I do not see the virtual path in there. It only lists the physical folders. So I cannot view or update my product images.

Does anyone know how to correct this? Could this be a setting some where? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Asset manger lists the physical folders under Assets folder not virtual directories.

Is there reasoning behind that, or is it an overlook?
