Changed order total - Will credit card chage be correct?

Post by dborden702 » Tue May 12, 2009 10:17 am

I gave a customer a discount after the order had been approved. I now am ready to capture payment. Will the amount charged be for the new order total, or the amount authorized? I don;t want to have to give a refund.

Example - Original order total and card authorization for $44.50.

I entered a $5 discount manually on the order. New total $39.50

If I capture Payment, will it capture the new total of $39.50, or the original authorization for $44.50?

Thanks

David

It will show you what amount will be captured before it captures it. By default it will capture what was authorized - depending on your gateway, you may not be able to capture more than the authorized amount.

I always void the authorization and capture the new amount. More hassle but keeps a clean audit trail just in case.

In your case, since the amount is lower I'm not sure - haven't crossed into that situation before. But AC7 will show you before it does it.....

Yes you can change capture amount via admin. Some payment providers do support partial captures for example googlecheckout. For those when you try to capture some amount there will be an option that this is last capture or you can initiate any other capture in future. In your case if you want to capture less amount then you can mark the capture as last capture and it would cancel authorization on remaining amount. In case of those provider which doesn't support partial capture if you capture some amount less then the authorized it will automatically cancel authorization on remaining amount.
