Shipping and Handling on individual items

Is there a way to add a handling fee to an individual item, rather than to the entire warehouse? I need to tack on a drop ship fee for certain items without having the system calculate the shipping & handling separately from in-house items.

Our shipping fees for drop ship items work like this...

In-House Shipping Fees (Vary By Cost) based on any type of item + Drop Shipment Handling Fee per Drop Ship Item (Flat)

I tried setting up a separate warehouse for drop ship items but the problem with that method in my scenario is that if I don't put the "Vary By Cost" fees on my drop ship warehouse and just charge the flat fee, then it works fine for orders that include a drop ship and an in-house item. However, it does not charge the In-House shipping fees if someone just orders the drop ship item alone, which it would need to do. Also, if someone adds multiple drop ship items, I have to charge the handling fee multiple times.

Are these things possible to do?

I still haven't been able to find anything on this after searching the interface.
Does that mean there is no way built in to add handling on a per item basis?

Out of the box AbleCommerce allows to define handling fee upon shipping method. If you want to have it per item basis then you would need to look for some custom configurations for example as you tried setting up a different warehouse or may be some customization.
