Allow International shipping for selected items?

Most of our products can only be shipped to the US. But a few can be shipped internationally (and will probably have different shipping rates).

How would I configure this?

Create a separate warehouse and assign the items to that warehouse. Then connect the new warehouse to a shipping method that includes international.

Thank you for the suggestion but is there anyway to do this without a warehouse? AC assumes Warehouses are physical, not logical. Therefore, items from different warehouses must be sent as separate shipments. We want to avoid that. Otherwise we run into the problem where Item A and Item B are shipped to the exact same domestic destination but because of the warehouses, there would have to be two shipments if one of the items is designated as International.

I'll probably just add custom validation to the ship method section of one page checkout and the ShipMethod page that prevent's the user from continuing if they've selected the International Shipping Rate for a restricted item.

Other ideas?
