Orphaned products still an issue

Post by AbleMods » Fri Oct 02, 2009 1:20 pm

I've been using dataport to test batches of product uploads to a new AC 7.0.3 install. After each upload test, we review the catalog, make necessary corrections in the source data and then delete the test category.

Deleting the test category should delete all the sub categories and products in those sub categories. However when I check the Orphaned Products page, it is filled with hundreds in the list.

There's been no code changes. No site crashes. Nothing manipulated in the data directly. We dataport up a few hundred products, do some analysis and then click the Delete button on the root category. How were orphaned products ever allowed to come about in the first place?

Finally, how do we get rid of all these? There's hundreds of them and clicking the little red "X" several hundred times isn't an effective solution.

That is strange. I remember having that happen at times, but the last two times I deleted categories before I imported with the dataport, the only thing that was orphaned was the images- I checked before the import.
Have you got any custom fields or something that prohibits the products from being deleted?

Nope. Site has no modifications. Site isn't even live yet - still running off an IP. No orders placed. Heck we don't even having shipping or payments set up yet.

At first I thought it was something still in someone's basket, but not 100's of products. Only 3 people even know the site exists.

Category tree is extensive - goes down to 5 levels in some places with many products overlapping into multiple sub-categories. I've been wondering if the one-product-assigned-to-multiple-categories scenario is the key....
