How to force products to ship individually?

We have some products that really need to be shipped individually through either FedEx or UPS and the current implementation of the Shipping methods does not appear to give us that control. Does anyone have any recommendations for modifying AC 7.0.0 or 7.0.3 to perform such a task? We are suffering the casualties of incorrect shipping charges right now due to the information sent to UPS and we'd like to resolve this by providing individual shipping for each product. Any thoughts?

One possible solution could be to assign different warehouses to these products. This will force the products to ship separately.

With this recommendation, I would pursue having individual warehouses all with the same address, correct? We only have one location we ship from so this is my take on it. I'll set something up in our Staging environment and see what it does. I'm still open for ideas, though.

I do see one issue with this. If a customer purchases one item in multiple quantities, it will still be associated with only one warehouse. Let's say a customer purchases 2 Widgets. We'll need to ship both widgets separately. Since they'll be associated with the same warehouse, I don't know how this recommendation would work.

We have actually just run into the same issue. I've posted a bug report with AbleCommerce because marking products "Ships Separately" should create a separate shipment for each product marked as such. Otherwise that "Ships Separately" means almost nothing. I believe the "Ships Separately" setting only causes items to calculate their shipping costs separately only for the integrated carriers (UPS, FedEx, etc.) but doesnt' actually create separate shipments.

We ended up rewriting the entire Shipping method process. It now includes the ability to define unassembled packages with weights/measures that make up the whole of a product. We're still working out the final details to make sure all of our products are shipping correctly. I'm not looking forward to the next AC update, though
