Different between NarrowSearch and AdvancedSearch?

On the ProductDataSource class, there are NarrowSearch and AdvancedSearch methods.

Can we get a wiki article that explains the parameters, the default behavior and how the two methods differ from each other? Those methods are pretty extensive and site searches are very important aspects of a storefront. It would be extremely helpful to have a clear understanding of how they work and how they can be utilized in customizations.
