IE checkout problems

Post by DeannaLS » Wed Nov 23, 2011 2:51 pm

Hi all,
We have recently started seeing an issue with checking out, but only in IE. Here's the scenario:

1. Anonymous user puts something in the basket, is on basket.aspx and clicks "checkout." The basket.aspx page reloads and the user can't checkout.
2. User logs in, gets transferred basket and it appears correct on basket.aspx. Clicks "checkout" and goes to checkout/default.aspx and has previously viewed items in the basket instead of the current basket.
3. Clearing the cart, recalculating, etc. - nothing works to get the correct cart to checkout/default.aspx.

This ONLY happens in IE - not firefox. Not chrome.

I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on.

Any thoughts?

Is the issue reported from a client trying to place an order or you discovered the issue from your local machine/s? It is possible that the issue is specific
to a particular IE security/privacy configuration settings.

Can your provide link to your site so other forum community members can confirm the IE issue.

It was first reported by a customer. It's been replicated by myself and another staff member. A third staffer (that never accesses the site) was not able to replicate the issue. The URL is:
http://learningstore.uwex.edu

We had recently had the site off-line for about a week due to some unrelated issues. We're not sure if this issue appeared when the site was offline or not.

(And, yes, we're aware of the CSS/formatting issue on the basket page that some people encounter in IE 9. But, I don't think it's related, and I don't want to mess with that until we figure out the other issue.)

Try turning on client browser errors (under tools, advanced settings) in IE 9 and then hit the basket page. See if you're getting Javascript errors. I'm wondering if the CSS/formatting issues are breaking the page's client-side code somehow.

Also make sure compatibility mode in IE9 is the same on all testing machines. Otherwise you're not testing apples-to-apples between IE9 installs.

I tested it on my IE 9 Win7x64 both compatibility mode and non-compatibility mode. Both worked fine for me.

Is it possible it's product specific?

Nope, no client side errors on that page. Thought switching to non-compatibility mode made it "work" for me. Ugh. Nothing consistent.

We're due for an upgrade to the latest version of Able, so I think I'm going to wrap fixing these things into the upgrade process (and cross my fingers that something in the upgrade "fixes" them for me). Ha.

I remember long ago there were issues with 7.0.2 doing something with the anonymous basket that caused the basket to be lost after authentication. I currently have a client dealing with that same issue in 7.0.3.

Customer sets up their basket. Then hits checkout. Then authenticates or registers, then returns to checkout only to find their basket is now empty. Frustrating to say the least.
