Right Side Bar not updating

I am having some trouble getting the rightsidebar to update whenever a user updates the quantities field. The picture that's attached to this post shows the right side bar with summary info but does not get updated when the user updates the quantity field and clicks the update link. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One added note is that the rightsidebar is a custom user control that sits outside the update panel of the main page/content.

You might need to wrap it in an update panel.
