All of the products we sell on our site are recurring subscriptions. We currently have to add a unique product for every sku we offer. For example, if we sell a subscription that has a different cost for monthly, quarterly, and annual, we have to add a product for each of these. I would like to have one product, and use options on the single product for each term, as each one will have a different price. (i.e. $10 a month, $35 Quarterly, and $75 Annual).

The reason we can't use a single product is because you can only set a subscription at the product level. For instance, if someone picks the annual option, would it only bill once and not the recurring subscription period we set at the product level. Does anyone have any ideas on how we might do this?

Kits might work for you with a kit product for each term and price modifier.

Judy, thanks for the suggestion. Here's what I'm thinking I will do. Will this work?

Add one "root" level product for each item we want to offer.
Set the price to $0 and hide price show it does not appear to be free when user views products
Add products for each term we want to offer with the appropriate price and subscription
Make these products hidden so user only sees the root level product
Add the term products as kits to the appropriate root products
User will select the term they want when they drill in on the root product

Does that make sense?

The only thing I see that doesn't make sense is making the kit hidden, but maybe I'm misunderstanding you- it can't be hidden or they can't select the term.

The reason I wanted to hide the product that represented the kit was so that it doesn't show up in the store. I want to only show the "root" level products in the store, then when a user clicks product details for the root product they will see the kits which will essentially be the versions and/or terms for that product. If a product is hidden, will it not show up as a kit for the product? If I don't hide the kit products, then I will be defeating the purpose of doing this. I only want the root products to show up in the store.

Does that make sense?

OK, I thought you wanted to hide the kit for the main product. It should work if you make the kit products hidden, but I'm not sure. You would just have to test it.
