7.0.2 Google Checkout?

Post by William_firefold » Tue Mar 10, 2009 1:44 pm

We tried the upgrade to AC 7.0.2 in order to fix the google checkout problem. Obviously, upgrading firefold.com is quite an undertaking because of all of our mods, and we decided to try out the new version before doing a full version integration with our current site. When we tested the google checkout problem(the only real reason for us to upgrade), there was no difference, and the problem seems to still exist.
Can anyone on here verify, and pinky swear, that the google checkout problem is fixed? Are there any details as to WHERE it was fixed. If I can fix it myself without having to do a full version change, that would be a much better alternative. Is there any way to only apply the google checkout fix from 7.0.2 without changing the rest?

No replies?

I would like to defer the previous question to this one.

Would it be possible to upgrade only the files associated with google checkout?

I noticed there was a size difference between our version and the upgrade for every file with google in the name, so I assume something has been done to them.
Is it valid to simply copy all files with google in the filename from the upgrade into our installation, and will it work?

I don't think anybody has tried to partial-upgrade to the extent you're proposing. The best you can hope for is to back it up, copy what you need and see if it'll work. Only harm is you've blown up your developer install which can easily be restored. Once you figure out what files need to be updated, then try it on the live site. Even then, unless you test every single feature in AC7 from shopping to checkout to payment, you'll never really know for sure if it working or slowly corrupting something unseen inside AC7.

But you're solving one problem to create another. Now you're looking a (very real) scenario where you've got DLLs from three different flavors of AC7. That's only going to cause further headache and problems with custom development down the road. Not to mention technical support.

In the end, you'll paint yourself in a corner where nobody can effectively support your install because your install is so entirely different from everyone else in the AC7 community.

Bite the bullet. Do it right so you only have to do it once. Migrate the modifications.

I knew from the beginning that integrating code in this way is a bad idea. I know about the problems that mixing versions can cause. My problem here is that we only need Google checkout to parse data properly. We dont need a whole new version, and 98% of the mods are trivial for us.
I am pretty much the only person at my company that can work on the code in Able, and I simply dont have the time to rebuild the entire site.
I have a feeling that im not going to get anywhere with this but I feel like Google checkout should have worked from the beginning, and if there is something wrong with it, there should be a patch for it.
If this were something like a custom report or sorting feature, I could let it go, but this is about money.
Having Google checkout on the site generates additional income, but the errors we have gotten have actually caused us losses on some occasions.

Is there anyway I can save myself from rebuilding the site?

The changes required to fix the problem was made in both CommerceBuilder and GoogleCheckout so just updating GoogleCheckout won't fix it. This is something that couldn't patched so you need a complete upgrade.

I am in the same boat, so I thought I would ask a quick question before trying to go through the 4,000 files that need to be upgraded....
Will upgrading to the latest build fix the problem with shipping in Google Checkout? Right now, if a customer buys ANYTHING in our store, they recieve the option to use ANY of our shipping methods, regardless of whether or not they apply to that product.
If the latest build takes care of this, then I suppose going through the hell of upgrading will be in order (sigh, I know it's my own fault).
Please let me know.

It has been fixed.

So that every individual bug that is fixed in 7.0.2 is not needed to be confirmed in a forum post a quick look at the change log will help.

Google Checkout shipping method issue was bug 7570 as mentioned in the change log.

Actually you have a point. There are more than 300 fixes and enhancements in 7.0.2.... one can't remember everything ... one really has to dig.

Glad my effort to point that out wasn't wasted.

It really isn't very easy. I've seen some posts around the forums that directed the OP to the bug/fix list. Most people will find that a dead-end street. I'm surprised more people haven't voiced a complaint about it.

Those descriptions are incredibly brief and the list isn't organized in any user-friendly way. You and I can find stuff pretty quickly because we recognize the terminology and the area involved. But not everyone shares that same level of expertise.

It's a tough issue for both sides. Able doesn't want to burn 20 hours of time organizing and detailing the bug/fix list. At the same time users don't like having to spend 20 hours digging through it to find if their issue has been resolved.

I do think documentation sorely needs more love. Lots of new functionality has been added in 7.0.2 and many core features still are undocumented in the online manual.

Yeah, I just finished my upgrade process, and thought I would glance through the fixes and enhancements. Wow! I think it took me about an hour to get through everthing!

So I just did a fresh 7.0.2 on my dev. A quick test showed it offers up all shipping methods.

Here's the error and how I make it happen:

Two Warehouses - 1 with USPS Options and 2 with a custom rate called Free Shipping.

Product 1 - Warehouse 1 assigned(only usps). Add product to cart - Check out with Google Check out - shows all options inlcuding the free shipping.

The whole attempt at us moving to 7.0.2 was because we were informed this was fixed. What can we do to solve this issue?

Robbie,

How do you have your development box set-up with Google Checkout? Are you using sandbox GC accounts? Are the rates other than free shipping live rates? SSL turned on/off? Any errors in your Google Checkout Integrated Console? From what I read in bugzilla, it says it was fixed.

In google-checkout, you must explicitly point to the connector file on your site that pulls/pushes data. If your google account is setup to point to your currently running site, your development site won't be able to get the proper info from google. It is getting it's information from a site that has not been upgraded yet.

I get the demo numbers I created on the dev site. Everything looks correct. Just the fact that I get to many.

Can you try my method on your live site and confirm you don't get the extra shipping methods?

Has anyone else had the chance to test? I know there are other 7.0.2's out there.

The Google Checkout issue is a huge limitation on Able. We cannot offer free shipping, flat rate for bulk items, etc.

Ah, we had a couple problems, so I had to roll back and plan for this week (Thursday). I'll let you know how the googe thing worked after that!
