"narrow or expand results" left sidebar not updating

has anybody had the problem before where the left sidebar doesn't update at all when you try to narrow your results by "x"ing out the selected categories?
or is this a 7.1 issue or something?

What is your application version, some similar problems were reported for 7.0. Check the change logs for service releases.

I am unable to reproduce the problem on my local 7.1 setup.

hmm.. interesting.
I realize specifically what it is now: When I "expand" my search by 'X'ing out the final standing category I had selected to narrow a search, (thus it should show all of the products in my entire store) the page freezes on the last category that it was narrowed down to and does not show all products.
furthermore (and this is much more of a pain):
When I begin reclicking categories to narrow down search again, it continues to stay frozen on that previous product page.
I have to select "home" within the breadcrumbs to go back to the "simple left sidebar" to begin properly narrowing down categories again.

hmm decided to just leave this hanging eh?
can anybody else help?
