User Account - Email Address Requirement

Our client has queried the use of the email address as the identifier for a user account - when a telephone order comes in, for instance, not every customer will have an email address.. and a lot of their historic customer data has no email address recorded, but they still need to be on the system so that if those customers phone again, their account can be accessed and an order built.

Has anyone encountered this sort of problem before?

Is there no answer, though, as to how deal with this problem? We'd rather not make up new email addresses everytime this situation arises.

Yes - the shop-domain-based email addresses was a solution that we came up with, but I thought it was a bit of a kludge..

Not ideal, but it'll have to do I guess..

Mind you, when you're developing and delivering AC as a product for a third party, it doesn't look that good..

Thanks for the link to the thread though - good to know I was on the right tracks :)

Perhaps you can try to customize PlaceOrder2.aspx to utilize some similar functionality as exposed by OnePageCheckout in case of anonymous user.
