Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
I've configured my paypal gateway to use a sandbox test account. When I click on the PayPal checkout button, it takes me directly to my store's receipt page. Shouldn't it redirect to the paypal sandbox to enter the necessary info?
Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Actually, what happens is the user is redirected to the Receipt page but the payment status says Pending and there is a button that says PayPal click here to pay.
Is this the correct behavior?
Why do you show a receipt before payment is received?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Hi ZLA -
I believe this to be correct, unfortunately. If a user happens to use PayPal Express Checkout, I think it'll take them to PayPal and back for the final confirmation page which to me seems much better. When a user pays with normal PayPal, half the time they forget to click the 'Pay Now' link...
I'd be curious to hear what others' opinions are regarding this matter.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Able Commerce, I really need answers to this thread as I will need to explain to my clients why One Page Checkout with PayPal is set up the way it is. I've reviewed the information in viewtopic.php?f=42&t=8225 but it doesn't address my specific questions. We're using Paypal Website Payments Standard. Behavior is the same whether Authorization Mode is set to Authorize or Capture.
The differences between PayPal Express checkout and the regular (OPC) PayPal checkout button make me want to classify this as a bug. Since I'm pretty sure the behavior is by design, I would like to know why the behavior is inconsistent and how I can make things clearer to our customers.
Scenario 1) Express checkout button goes to paypal
1. Why is the receipt page used for paid in scenario 1 and for submitting payment in scenario 2?
2. Why doesn't paypal come back to the normal View Order page (without any PayPal button) after the user pays on the paypal site?
3. Assuming the above behavior is not a bug, how can I customize our site for one or more of the following:

Scenario 1) Express checkout button goes to paypal
- user logs in to paypal
- user returned to multi page checkout process
- user proceeds through multi page checkout to confirm order page with PayPal Check Out image button
- user presses PayPal Check Out image button and is sent to receipt page, indicating order PAID, just like a nromal credit card payment.
- user sent to receipt page, showing PayPal Click Here To Pay image button with a status of Pending. This is a real problem since the PayPal button isn't visible unless you page down! The customer could easily overlook paying with PayPal.
- user clicks button and pays on paypal
- user returned to exact same receipt page, which still shows the PayPal Click Here To Pay image button, but with a slightly modified status of Pending (payment review). The paypal page has the following url for the return to store link: .../MyStore/ProcessPayPal.ashx?OrderId=131
- the user goes directly to the paypal site from One Page Checkout without going through the receipt page?
- detect PayPal Click Here To Pay on the receipt page so I can display a message that the user still needs to pay.
- make the return to the site url from paypal display the normal View Order page, without the paypal button being displayed.
- detect when the receipt page is for a paid order and for an unpaid order.
- change One Page Checkout to use the PayPal Express Checkout process instead.
Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
I apologize for "nagging" but I would appreciate any guidance on the Paypal issues in this thread. These issues could significantly impact the success of our upcoming launch and I need to know how to ensure our PayPal orders aren't left incomplete or unpaid. Any assistance will be truly appreciated.

I don't know if you realize it, but quite a few of your posts come across with an antagonizing tone. You probably wwould receive a much better response rate if you toned down the verbiage of your posts.
AC has one of the most active forums for ecommerce software, but your expectations of real time responses is too high. AC has a paid support feature for really pressing issues. Plus there are 3rd party providers that are available as well for customizations. If you think something is a bug, submit it as a bug.
Hope that helps.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Brandon, it was certainly NOT my intent to be antagonizing. If anything, I believe most of my posts are appreciative of all the help I receive. There are a few issues which I have been very frustrated by but I have tried to be considerate in my request for assistance while still explaining what I find frustrating.
I have certainly seen other frequent posters explicitly complain about Able Commerce which I have tried not to do. I have tried also to respect forum rules by not bumping my posts. (I think this was only my second one and I did apologize for this very critical issue. My first one was before I saw the rules about bumping.) The one issue I have complained about (as have other posters) is difficulty in finding information in online documentation.
It also seems like AC prefers bug questions to be addressed first in the forums particularly if it isn't clearly a bug. Since I don't know if my issue is a bug, I thought I would try to get a quick answer first.
To all of Able Commerce's posters and those in the community, I apologize if I've offended you. I really do appreciate all of the assistance and hope you realize my frustration at not being able to solve a problem is not frustration with those trying to help me.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
ZLA, I wasn't sure of the answer, so I didn't post. I know Paypal worked the same way in Able 5 and I had to move the button to the top of the receipt page so people would see it. This is from memory, which might not be accurate:
When we used Paypal for all our payment methods, then for the charge cards, the transaction was transparent, but I think we still had to use the Paypal button from receipt page for Paypal transactions. It could be something that Paypal requires, but I'm not sure. I believe every site I've shopped at that offered Paypal functioned the same way. Paypal Express checkout is more transparent, I think, but we didn't use that because back then, maybe so now, the customer had to have the order shipped to their paypal address because the PP Express checkout more or less took over the checkout process after the basket page.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
Thank you so much Judy. I really appreciate your responses. Now I know others have had to move the paypal button on the receipt page and why express checkout may be different.
In looking into this, I found posts about IPN and realized I hadn't set this up in my sandbox profile which is probably why the return is having a problem. Hopefully that will correct a big part of my problems.
Thanks again for the help.

Re: Paypal Payments button doesn't popup sandbox paypal window
FYI, I got the following response from the bug system:
Using Paypal website payments standard is going to produce the results you've mentioned. Nothing you've described is a bug. Paypal website payments standard just isn't as nice of payment method as far as integration.
Kind Regards,
Mike Randolph
