Sales Tax/Quickbooks Problem

Post by egormsen » Mon Dec 21, 2009 6:25 pm

We just noticed a problem that appears to have started when we applied the 7.0.3 update a few months ago.

When viewing the order lines items each item in the order now has an individual sales tax line associated with it. So if you have three items in the order, you have three sales tax lines. This becomes a problem when you have an order where a coupon code is used and you tried to integrate with Quickbooks. The problem is that now the order shows the coupon code and also shows a sales tax line with a negative amount - and Quickbooks does not allow (or at least I have not) a sales tax item to have an negative amount.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Any workarounds?

Check under Configure-->Taxes-->Settings and see if you have that set to show taxes as separate line items.

Judy,

I did check the tax settings and I have the invoice display setting at "Show summary tax details only".

The problem is when you look at the order items you see multiple tax lines and that is where there are tax lines with negative amounts, which quickbooks does not accept. I am thinking this was a change in 7.0.3 - before this release the tax would only show once even if a coupon was used - know is shows a tax line for each item.

Here is a screen shot that shows the problem - notice that when a coupon is used there are two line items for the coupon discount along with two line items with negative tax:

In looking into this more, I have found that it is not a problem with the latest version - it has been a problem for longer that than.

Does anyone else you AbleCommerce & Coupons along with Quickbooks?

Why does Able commerce have to split out? Can this be fixed/changed in the next version? A better way to handle this is for their to be one sales tax line for the order, just like it displays on the customer invoice - or if for some reason certain users need is seperated at least make it an option.

We have experienced exactly the same problem and have not yet found a workaround. For the moment, we are modifying our QB Sales Receipts and combining the sales tax manually into one line. If you have a high volume of transactions, this is obviously problematic.
