Coupons-automatically when User or Group member checksout

I've tried to look thru the posts to find this, but can't.

The main difficulty is that we need to use coupons as a store credit (usually when a regular customer returns a product, e.g., an RMA) and the customer or our admin's need to remember/know that the coupon is available to be used at the time of a subsequent purchase.

Unless someone has a better way,
A) I create a Group consisting of the user(s) who can apply this credit.
B) I create a Coupon for the specified amount, assign it to that Group (other parameters, such as one-time use, any or specific products, start/end dates, etc. might be set too.)
C) I have an email template that has the text to explain how the customer should apply this credit (albeit, there is no way to automatically put the Coupon Code into the email, we have to add it manually.)
D) then we have to trust that the customer will use that coupon code...or we have to know to apply it if we are entering the order manually through the admin side.


Desired result (customer placing order thru customer side):
A) The next time that customer (who is a member of that group) goes to checkout, it would be great if the availability of the coupon was displayed so the customer knew the credit was available (they wouldn't have to remember.)
B) Let the customer decide to apply it to the current order or not (perhaps delay the use to a later order for whatever reasons...in other words, only apply if the customer says, "Yes, I want to apply that credit to this order.")
C) Apply it according to the rules set up when the coupon was created.

Desired result (admin placing order on behalf of customer through admin side):
Essentially the same as above put on Admin/Orders/Create/CreateOrder4.aspx
