Variants with product import (not dataport)

We have a store in which we sell tickets. It is currently AC5.5 and we are working on converting it to AC7 but there is so much customization that Dataport is of no help in this. I'm oversimplifying but:
  • Our tickets come in Adult, Child, Senior and Other varieties.
  • We are using a custom program to import products from a stand-alone product creation/management system.
Since we are going to be using our "sync" program to create all the products in the store I have a question about variants. Every product in our store has these same 4 variants. If we were to create them by hand in AC's admin panel, assuming 500 products, there would be 500 Adult entries in the Option Choices table, 500 Child, etc. These would link to the options table which links to the ProductOptions table which ultimately links to the products.

My question is this: Can I create one set of variants and link every product to the *same* OptionID entry in ProductOptions and have the correct pricing and other info filled into the ProductVariants table or should I just go ahead and create 500 sets of variants for my entire product line?

I hope it's clear... I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around it all.
Thanks!
