PayPal requires WSE 3.0 but not support in Server 2008?

According to the AC7 documentation, WSE 3.0 (Web Services Enhancements) is required for any of the PayPal payment methods.

However nothing on Microsofts site says WSE 3.0 is compatible with Server 2008. I find a few internet references and they say it's NOT compatible.

So how does one accept PayPal on a Server 2008 AC7 installation? Or is the documentation out of date?

We have mixed information. I have not independently verified, but an internal source told me that he had server 2008 and WSE installed and PayPal worked. Redevelopment of PayPal using web services (no WSE requirement) was completed some time ago. Because PayPal is such a complex processor, we did not try to put this into the most recent release for fear the QA would drag out further. We are still working on PayPal in general trying to ferret out some hard to reproduce issues.

Our AbleCommerce PayPal IPN processor is not working and I am very reluctant to install unsupported MS software on our main web server.

So, does this mean that if I use PayPal Pro I need to run Windows Server 2003?

Any update here? WSE was released in 2005. This thread is from 2010 but the WSE requirement is still in the instructions but I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 and am very hesitant about installing WSE which seems very outdated.

LOL - "The presentation requires Netscape Navigator 7.0 or later, or Internet Explorer 5.2.2". Um, yeah, bit outdated.

I take PayPal on my sites running Server 2008 R2 64-bit. If I did install WSE, it didn't create a problem or simply said it wouldn't install and I pressed on.

It's been so long since I've dealt with it, not sure if it's still a true requirement or not.

WSE runtime only is fine, I use it on Win 2008 R2 and I also have it installed on Win 2012 R2 - nothing to worry about.
