NVelocity in Category/Webpage/Product Description

Is there a way to get NVelocity variables to work in the Category, Webpage, and Product descriptions? Would this have any impact on the sitemap or files generated for shopping engines?

nvelocity variables work inside scriptlets and email templates. I don't think they can work inside product descriptions.
