Is there any way to add filtering by custom Product fields (like color, size, etc.) without having to create categories for each? Basically want to expand the existing category search which allows to narrow down by manufacturer and category to add Narrow down by Price, Color, Size, etc.

I have done it using product template fields, but it should be easier just using price, etc. You will need to edit the categorysearchsidebar and the category page (Like categorygrid) to pass the parameters back and forth unless you want to create a new custom search method.
