subdomain SSL certificate

Post by DonAshby » Wed Jun 15, 2011 9:29 pm

Name: Don Ashby

Message: I have a store with you on AC 7. it was built Oct 2007 - 2008 when 7.0 first came out. Right now everything is on the domain of www.goinginstyle.com. I want to change my SSL shopping cart part of the site to be:
secure.goinginstyle.com
now it is on www.goinginstyle.com

I am wondering if the SSL will work with the original 7.0 version - we have not upgraded at all - we are still on the first release of .0
We are now using Network Solutions SSL but will change to Verisign the month when we make this change

so I guess the ? is, can we have a subdomain for the SSL checkout to be secure.goinginstyle.com and will your AC software work? We have a server for the webserver and a separate one for the database. Both of these are standalone dedicated servers. Thanks, Don

PS. Havent been on the forums for quite a while - was active in the beginning of 7 - good to be back.

It would be a tricky set up but should be possible.

The problem is you'll have to get your AC7 license modified so that it includes both http://www.goinginstyle.com and secure.goinginstyle.com. AC7 is licensed by host name, so you will need a license that supports both. Only AbleCommerce can get you the updated license code to support both host names.

Then modify the storefront so the checkout URL's point to secure. instead of www.

Then add the new secure.goinginstyle.com SSL certificate to the IIS server.

You're taking a lot of risk tweaking such an old version of AC7 though. If a client requested I support such an old installation, I would turn the project down unless they upgraded first. That's just too old to have any chance of successfully supporting it.
