Hello, I am trying to find a way to give a customer a special price on one or more items when creating an item from the Able commerce backend. Currently there is no way to do this without fdirst charging their card the original amount of the product, which can be a problem especially if the customer does not have those funds available.

I have considered making a product with a variable price that can be subbed in for this purpose, but then we lose the sales data and inventory tracking that is associated with this.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response. What we are looking for is a per-order solution, as opposed to creating pricing rules and such. We are trying to preserve the personal touch of giving the customer a good deal, and automation would deter from that.

I feel that I am getting to know this software better, but still have not found a way to do this. Any ideas are appreciated.

Well have you tried the special prices features. If you edit the product and then go to special prices option from left menu. You will see that you will be able to define custom price for user groups. So first create a new user group and then from special prices option specify the special price for that user group. Finally put your customer to that user group. This will enable your customer placed under newly created user group to purchase product with special price you defined for new user group.

Yes, and that is not quite what we're looking for with this. The need for the this has come about most often under unique circumstances where we will give a special price for some special situation. Usually these are unpredictable occurrences, and the decision is often made to make the change right there when we are on the phone with the customer, making setting up special pricing and assigning user groups an impractical solution in most of these occurrences.

Currently, we handle this by charging the full amount, then refunding back the funds that the sale would have been reduced by. This works fine in most cases, but if the customer does not have enough funds available for the "full" amount, then purchase cannot be made.

So this brings about the desire for some quick, on-the-fly, back-end, per-case, price changing.

You can create a new coupon and use that.
