Able 7.0.7 Upgrade SEO issue

Post by roadkill » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:55 am

We upgraded to 7.0.7 about a month and 1/2 ago and our HOME PAGE is not longer indexed by google. It was before but nothing now. If you type in a sentence or so from the home page, nothing comes up. It did before. It started to slowly disappear for major keywords, etc. The cache looks weird. We upgraded from 7.0.3. Internal pages all show up. Anyone else have this issue? site is www.badideatshirts.com ANY HELP would be GREATLY appreciated. THX

If you go to a google search page and type in this:

site:www.badideatshirts.com

You'll see all the pages Google has indexed from just your site. Your home page is the first page. It looks like Google still has you indexed but you've dropped down in the rankings for your natural search keywords.

Have you tried some of the external sites that link to your site? How about sites that link to a specific category or product page - do those links still work?

We had EXCELLENT SEO before the upgrade. First page rankings...we have 1000's of NATURAL...blog reviews, etc. It is not a new a site...we ranked number 5 for funny t shirts before the upgrade and many 1st page positions. At first I though google was doing an update. Somewhere, somehow...it is not reading our title tags, etc...

Did you have custom titles before in the Default.aspx at the root of the site? If so, did you overwrite that file in the upgrade? If you don't have custom code, that is where it would be picking up the title.

I noticed this morning that the <TITLE> tag appears multiple times on several (maybe all?) of your pages.

When I check the source in the browser I'm seeing two page title tags too. One is the default, automatic one generated from the category name or product name, and the second one is coming from the user custom generated title from the "HTML Head" field in product and category admin.

It is also possible that your site got affected by the new Google algorithm update.
