AbleCommerce Shopping Cart Software

I'm looking to implement gift cards on my site. I know there is functionality that supports gift cards, but the way it's done is not what I'm looking for.

I want the cards to be specific to my brand, but I want customers to use them like a credit card. I want to be able to sell them online and in our stores and have customers use them both online and in our stores.

And does AbleCommerce support even the use of this type of card, where the system goes out and checks against a payment processor to see if there is money on the card and if it's valid or not, vs a number being generated in the software and the customer debiting against a database record.

How do these cards get activated in AbleCommerce if someone purchases one online? We activate them before we mail them out? Or if they choose to get their card by email, we activate the number before they go out?

Able does not support that functionality. We have done a customization for someone who wanted to use them, but they only wanted them issued online, not to be used in the store. Their gift cards were SVS Cards. I think there are several different providers.
