We have 4000 products and (currently) 10 states in which we need to collect taxes. The products' taxability vary by product type, size and ingredients. There are 1600 products that are taxable in 9 of the 10 tax states, 470 that are taxable in 4 of the 10 states, 180 taxable in 6 or 10 states etc. If you think of a Y or N flag for each product for each of the 10 states (e.g. YYNNNYNNYY) there currently are 82 distinct sets of 10 state tax flags represented among the 4000 products. The initial grouping of 2500 products was launched by creating tax codes for the 10 most common state tax flag combinations. While this could be continued to 82 tax codes, it does not seem practical if we need to start considering 48 states. Has anyone run into this situation? Are their any suggestions of how this could be supported with the built-in capabilities short of writing our own tax provider package?
Thank You in advance,
