Error during first test run of Beta 2 on shared hosting

Post by AbleMods » Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:19 am

Guys,

I've finished what content work I can do, so I decided to upload what I have to my shared provider (Discountasp.Net). Beta 1 worked first time, so I didn't expect any trouble.

I removed the IIS application on the old store folder. Renamed the old store folder. Made a new folder and uploaded everything from local to host. I then recreated the IIS application.

Here's the error message I get when I try to hit the store URL. Thoughts?
Server Error in '/Store' Application.

Hello Joe,

I've not seen anything like this in dozens of Beta 2 installations. So I would start clean. Completely remove all of the files Beta 1 and Beta 2 from the system. Then upload a fresh copy of beta 2 to the server and try again.

It appears there is a mix of beta 1 and beta 2 assemblies being called.
Thanks for your support

I agree there appears to be a mix of DLL flavors.

However I did start with a fresh folder on the hosted site. Then I FTP'd all the files from my local install to the hosted site folder.

When you say a "fresh copy" of beta 2, are you saying the original .zip download without any of my content? Otherwise, what do you mean by a "fresh copy"?

I don't know how to migrate my content from one install to another, so I had to install Beta 2 over the top of Beta 1 on my development PC.

I'm not having any issues with the development PC, that's what is confusing me.

OK, made some progress.

Blew away all the DLL's in the hosted BIN folder. Re-extracted the same from the beta 2 zip file and uploaded. Licensing page loaded as it should have and site is working.

Site working better now. I'm getting a C1 Component licensing error, but I think that's a licensing issue on my end, not yours.

I really wish I knew why some files on my development end have been getting hosed. I swear I haven't been messing around with the files in the store folder.

So far I've had the DLL issue and goofy chars in the style.css file. Wonder what else is waiting to surprise me....

I have been trying to get to this issue all day. I am glad you got the bin files resolved - it certainly seems to be a DLL out of synch problem. I noticed something strange about the DLL linking a day or two back, I am going to go back and see if that is any way related to your trouble.
Cheers,
Logan

Logan,

Thanks for the reply - I'm sure you've been busy. I've been anxious to see the site working live so it's been tough to "sit on my hands" most the day :)

I'm having other troubles and I'm not sure if they're related or not. I'm starting to suspect my extract of the Beta 2 files didn't work as planned. All I did was extract them to the site folder running Beta 1 and told it to overwrite any existing files.

Can you tell me specifically how the files in the Beta 2 zip should be deployed into an existing Beta 1 site?
