Hello,
I've been wanting to experiment with some templates etc before I mess with the hosted site.
I can connect to my hosted site just fine and d/l the sample products etc.
however, if I try the same thing with my test site, I get a 401: not authorized response when trying to connect.
My development site is a localhost on a XP machine. Is that perhaps the problem?

Hello Jim,

I'm guessing it's your connect string. I do all my testing of the dataport utility on windows xp with the free Microsoft Visual Web Developer tool and it works great.

Also confirm you're running build 8272 . You can check the build from the Help Menu on the admin side, click about.
