Request: Importing users with data import utility
Request: Importing users with data import utility
Importing users isn't functional in my situation.
I have hundreds of asp.net forms authentication registrations with my old site. Most of the ac_users fields line up nicely so that was nice. But here is what I need for the user import to be even remotely useful for me.
1. Provide a password field.
2. Provide all the address fields.
3. Provide ability to assign imported users to a specified mailing list. This will be used for an "introduction" email. Allow me to send a nice "Welcome to the future of..." message that greets my users to their new home.
The less I have to ask my customers to do, the happier they will be. Kinda reminds me of my ex-wife
As a side note, the users table has fields for secret question and secret answer. Are these even used in AC7 or just maintained for compatibility with the security provider?

I haven't had a chance to look at the new data port. In fact, I don't even know where to get it.
I ended up writing all my own import routines. Products, order history, users etc. It took more time, but it gave me a lot more control over the data.

Once you've upgraded to RC2 then you can try the latest dataport utility.

The links for both 3 and 4 are towards the bottom of the page in the DataPort Beta 1 sticky (only slightly misleading title at this point ...).
Also, if you go to ftp.ablecommerce.com, it's buried in the folders there, which is where I found version 3 when I was trying to download the 5.5 eval to work with some old data.

Hello All,
I've cleaned up the dataport thread and updated the first post so it's easier to find the dataport4. I believe we're gonna get dataport5 today or tomorrow. We've gotten more xml files to test with and it's coming together!
