Paypal *Gateway/Merchant Account*

I am new to ecommerce and we are setting up an ecommerce website for a client and trying to give them advice on merchant accounts/Gateways for them to use.

We originally thought of using Paypal "Payflow Pro", but with payflow pro you need to already have a merchant account.

After talking to a Paypal Rep they suggested using "Website Payments Pro"
Which is both a gateway and merchant account. When I went to configure/add a gateway on our ableCommerce cart there were only two options listed:

1) Payflow pro
2) Paypal
---------------------

Can someone give me suggestions on:

1) Should we use Payflow pro; If so where should we look for our merchant account?

2) How can we configure Paypal "Website Payments Pro" to work with our cart?

---------------------

Thank you for all of your help!

This is what they say on the paypal site:

* http://www.ablecommerce.com

Complete solution with an easy-to-use, web browser-based management system.
Features

* Ideal for merchants who have outgrown their systems
* Search engine-friendly solution
* Intuitive shopping and checkout experience

Compatibility

* Website Payments Standard
* Website Payments Pro
* Payflow Pro

- However the only option listed is payflow pro.

Please help, Thanks!

For Website Payments Pro, you would want to configure the 'PayPal' gateway.

A problem was recently discovered in our integration with PayPal in the release candidate. A fix is underway and will be available as soon as we can re-QA.

However, this problem was NOT with Website Payments Pro. As far as I know it functions properly in the release candidate.

I do not know why PayPal has us listed incorrectly. I will tackle that next week.

QA timeline?

I work with Chris and we are setting this all up.

The end client is waiting for us to recommend payment solutions so we need to be able to tell them something. I just want to confirm that we can safely recommend website payments pro.

Thanks,

John

Yes, absolutely. Website payments pro is (as far as I know) fully and properly functional in the RC1 version.

The problems I referred to are with express checkout and the "pay now" HTML buttons.

Hi Logan,
Should we try to set this up for us so that we have something that works that does not link to PayPay, or is the solution coming soon enought that this is a moot point?
Thanks, Don Ashby

PS we are using PayFlow for BOTH credit card and PayPal Regular. :?:

I'm using Website Payments Pro exclusively with my live AC7 install. Aside from this weeks trouble authorizing somebody in Slovakia and Trinidad, it's worked flawlessly from the beginning.

I was thrilled to see it work so well. Just populate the fields in the setup screen with your API username, etc and give it a whirl.

I've done captures-onlys, authorizations and refunds. All worked well the first time for me.

I don't think that is possible? It is not my understanding of how Payflow works. Is this what PayPal recommended? I will check whether I have missed some sort of update to PayFlow.

An updated PayPal integration will be available very soon - probably not today but this week for sure. I've already put it through the ringer for 2 days, now others are testing to confirm. (We have a rule against doing QA on our own development work.)

Yeah, there's no issue with Payments Pro in the RC1. It will perform all of the operations properly, if you are strictly using PayPal as a gateway to process Visa/MC.
