Hi,

I have looked in online help and search forum but cant find out how I put through a test transaction. In other words I go through and buy something off my shop but without any money in a "test mode" so to speak.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks,

I am no expert here but I think it depeds of your gateway. For example if you use Paypal you need to create a develloper account with them in order to use the sandbox.

If you don't need to test the gateway and only the checkout process then you could have no gateway setup but only payment methods such as visa and mastercard. This would allow you to pass order from your store without being charge and as an admin to see the orders coming in.

I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean I should enter my real credit card information?

Yes it's entirely dependent on your gateway. They have to support a "test" or "sandbox" mode.

PayPal supports it fully, but it's a pain to get configured.

My trick was to set up a few "hidden" products with a $1 price. Hidden products do not show in the store but are still accessible through their direct URL. Putting those URL's on my favorites let me hit them quickly as needed.

Then I could test purchasing, payment processing, order fullfillment etc all without risking a visitor snagging a great deal on ocean weather radar systems. I just used a personal card for testing.

CAUTION about the 1$ item, I did the same thing and my credit card was immediatly cancel by the fraud department. My cc company explained to me that a flag is raise in their system when they see such transaction and the cancel immediatly your card. Appenrently it is known that theif first try a small amount to see it the cc works and if it does then they proceed to bigger purchase.

When i was using OSCommerce there was a number you could put through for visa that let the payment go through without charging it like:

41111111111111111111 and any expirey and sec code.

But i guess that was my payment gateway that supported that.

Hello,

You also could just setup the 'Call Me' payment method, to skip having to keep typing in the cc number.
