Categories and/or products seen by certain groups

Post by softpac » Fri Feb 08, 2008 1:36 am

Hi

Has anyone worked out how to make some categories and/or products to be seen by a particular group? At the moment, every product and category is seen by all users.

Thanks - Brent

silence

Post by softpac » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:17 pm

The silence is deafening  So I assume in answer to my question: Products and categories cannot be restricted to a certain group of users.

The reason why I was asking is because in my online store, I sell to the end consumer, and I sell to retail shops. However, the products I sell to consumers are different to the ones I sell to the shops, although there are some products that I sell to both - just at retail and wholesale prices of course.

It sounds like I need two installations of AC7? Or can I do this with one install, but 2 different databases? Or do I do this as one install, and one database, but 2 virtual stores? How would the URLs work in this case? How do I do 2 stores, and the admin for them?

Advice anyone? Thanks.

Almost anything can be done in Able with customization. You would probably just need to assign the users to a group and get the groupid, then put conditional code on the pages. I can't be more specific because I haven't worked with AC7 much, but that is how I would approach it in 5.5.
Or for the products you sell to retail shops only could be set to private and then you could create a separate menu system for the retailers.

I don't think it does that out of the box.

We have the same issue -- some products are retail only, some wholesale, some both. I haven't found a way to hide categories or products by group from the admin interface.

The only way I know would be to directly modify the code.
