Variants and Shipping calculation

Post by dpr1016 » Wed Feb 13, 2008 9:54 am

Is there a way to modify the dimensions of a variant (l, w, h)? The problem we are having is that we are using "size" as a variant for certain products and we are using UPS as a shipping gateway. Certain shipping methods (namely next-day and 2nd-day air) seem to be using dimensional weight to determine rates and therefore it is not calculating the proper shipping rate for variants that are larger or smaller than the initail product.

UPS keeps making their dim weight smaller and that was affecting our ground shipments also. We just added weight to the products to compensate and it really only affected customers using other than ground because we had free shipping on orders over $99. Maybe you can do something like that.

Variants do not support product dimensions per variant - each variant shares the main product dimensions.

Without customization, Kits would be your better choice.

Yes, this is the only way I can think of. You can set the weight for a variant. If you can determine the weight used to calculate shipping (probably their online calculator would help with this), you can set the weight in this way.
