Product Templates - Adding Cost Modification

Hi,

The client whom I am making a site for using AbleCommerce has a lot of products that have the same set of options associated with them - the easiest way I can achieve this is using the Product Template functionality - however, these options also have price modifications.

There are quite literally, hundreds of permetations that would need to be input per-product is I went down the Option/Varient route.

My questions is, how easy (or difficult) would it be for me to edit AbleCommerce to include a price modification for a Product Template drop-down field? My main concern is that a large part of the functionality i'll be editing is in the compiled code and isn't accessible by me.

Is what I am asking feasible? I'm a fairly proficient developer, the level of coding being used isn't an issue, simply to physical limitations of editing what is essentially some pretty core functionality.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hello Dave,

I'd carefully look at kits before heading down the custom programming path. Kitted components can be shared between as many products as needed. So if there is a change in the 'options' you can edit it in one place and it will be reflected on all of the product which have the kitted options attached.

Hi,

I've been off work for a week, but now I am back so...

After looking at the Kitting functionality, am I right in thinking that a kit is as follows;

PRODUCT: A Desk
Kit Component: LEGS
Kit Component Product: Wooden
Kit Component Product: Brushed Steel

In this model, would the 'Wooden' and 'Brushed Steel' legs need to be products in the catalogue?

They would need to be products but they can be hidden.
