Variant Availability

After upgrading from 7.2 to 7.3 the availability field doesn't seem to have any affect. All variants are showing up as options for the buyer even when I have availability = 0 for a productvariant record.

Hello Spencer,
I believe you need to enable option inventory on the product editing page.

What you say is accurate. On the product details page if I set the inventory tracking to track variants then the only options that show up are those that I enter a quantity available in the options and variants screen. But then what is the point of the available field? It was working great in 7.2. I could control whether an option showed up for the buyer in the drop down simply by making it available or not. Now I would have to track inventory, which I don't want to do. I would think people who do want to track inventory wouldn't want to do so for option/variant permutations that don't exist. So they would just want to make them unavailable like I am suggesting. Please advise.
