Shipping vary by product

Hello everyone!

I have a client that has asked for a shipping pricing that seems a little complex. please let me know if this is easily doable, or if I should try to talk them out of it. I'm just getting into the shipping aspect, so I'm not that familiar with how to set it up.

Here are the scenarios:

# of widgets Shipping charge
1 $2.10
2-7 $4.75
8-30 $8.95
(over 30, add cost as per above)


Empty container $4.75
container with up to 16 widgets $8.95
(over 16 widgets and costs are as above based no number of widgets shipped over 16)


Book $4.75


Collector’s Sets
A $14.95
B $8.95
C $8.95

I just went thru this same scenarion (almost) ... each shipment has a cost (ship method handling fee) each product has a fixed cost and a variable cost (so much per each). You need to break it down and the part that can be locked into a shipment of one should be rolled into the handling cost, the product price needs to absorb the variable per product cost. Not sure how clear this is but that's my take on the matter.
