Turning on Reviews caused Home Page to break

Post by DonAshby » Sun Jun 08, 2008 3:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

We are using AC7 RC3 and the Reviews and made a simple change in the database from False to True to turn it on with 3 products ( as it presently doesnt work - it did in RC 1 but not now ).

When we made this change, we saw that the Reviews still did not work, so we set it back to False and moved on. But this action broke our Home Page - but only the Home Page. The rest of the site worked fine.

We got the error message below:
****************************
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source Error:
The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

Anyone else using Reviews successfully? Any ideas why changing this from Falst to True to False would break the Home Page.

Thanks, Don :?:

Did you make a change directly to the database or thru the admin? I had an issue where the reviews broke a site when we deleted all the test reviews as we were ready to launch the site. I thought it was something I had done because I put the reviews section into a tabbed section on the product display page and I had stripped out all the review conditional logic in the Show Product 1.htm. As I was in a panic, the problem seemed to straighten itself out and I never did know what caused it because someone else was working on putting some flash on the site at the same time. The error I got had to do with reviews, but I don't remember the exact error message.
We are using reviews successfully on that site and on another one that I know of- both in RC3.

Hi Judy,
We made the change to the database. The Reviews worked before but not now so it it probably something our developer needs to fix - as we did custom product pages.

We hoped it was something simple ( like setting the false to true in the database ) but that seemed to break our site and showed the error that you saw Friday.

Anyway, we restored SQL 2005 to Midnight and that fixed it,,, but we lost some work.

Any luck on getting the ga to work on both sides of the shopping cart? Both the product pages and eCommerce?

Also, I put up a post about the Feature List. Do you have an opinion as to if it is currently reflective of RC3?

Thanks, Don

I scanned the feature list quickly and it looks pretty current. Now that I've got a real store to work on as far as daily issues, I'm going to be having more questions and tweaks I need to figure out. Like there is a place to put META stuff in the Scriplets for the display pages which is good because then you have a default, but if you put ones in the category pages, they don't override the defaults, so you have two.
