Refund Failed: Transaction does not meet criteria for refund

I captured a payment today for two items that we sold, however, as it turns out we only had 1 left to sell and I'm trying to process a partial refund. I'm getting this message "FAILED" "The referenced transaction does not meet the criteria for issuing a credit. (54) Transaction ID:0"
Why won't it let me do a partial refund? Any ideas?

This is an older post so you may have already solved it. This could be dependent on the gateway. If the capture was queued, but hasn't settled yet (like your processor batch settles everything at the end of the day) you might have to wait a day before you can issue the refund. The alternative it to log into your payment gateway administration and adjust the payment from there. After that, you have to edit the AbleCommerce payment to adjust as needed.

We were never able to issue a refund with authorizenet until after the batch had settled.
