Yes, but there are many reasons not to do that.

The most important is site performance will suffer. Encryption slows everything down - the web server has to encrypt everything and the browser has to decrypt everything. This includes page images, etc.

The second reason is bandwidth - encryption adds alot of overhead to HTTP traffic.

The first time a spider crawls your site, you'll notice it.

If there are specific pages on your site that you would like HTTPS, I can post instructions on how to accomplish it. But I wouldn't recommend the entire site be made SSL unless you are prepared for the performance and bandwidth hits you will take.

thanks Joe for the info

I bought a new SSL that has the green bar in in (not installed yet)
I think a lot of my customers are morons they can not tell that my site is secure they can't find the little lock in the address bar or look at the certificate and don't understand it .I figured it would help sales for those that are worried about the security seeing the green is more noticeable

I guess i will leave the website the way it is

Regards
Joe

If you could only spend a day with MY customer base :)

Seriously, customers are a good thing - they're why we are all working so hard to do the jobs we do. With IE7, I have noticed it is not as "obvious" when encryption is turned on. I'm actually thinking about subscribing to get one of the "Hacker Safe" logos just add a little credibility to the masses. Might not be a bad route for you as well - slap it right on those checkout pages....
